This Woman Might Go To Jail For Tagging Her Former In-Law On Facebook
While tagging a friend or family member in a photo or status seems harmless, it landed one woman ina lotof trouble.
Maria Gonzalez is facing a year in jail after tagging her former sister-in-law, Maribel Calderon, in a post that called her "stupid." In another she wrote, "You and your family are sad." Sure, such a thing would typically result in a heated spat over text message, but this situation was much more serious.
Calderon had an order of protection against Gonzalez in relation to her divorce from her brother, Rafael. The negative Facebook posts seemed to be in clear violation of it. While Gonzalez claimed that Facebook interaction wasn't specified in the order, Westchester County Supreme Court Justice Susan Capeci disagreed: "The order of protection prohibited the defendant from contacting the protected party by electronic or any other means."
Gonzalez now faces a year in jail. Her attorney does not plan on appealing the ruling.
There you have it, folks.
